Biometric Time Clocks in Hotels

Hotels are often using biometric time clocks, including fingerprint readers and hand readers (HandPunch), for time and attendance: keeping track of employees’ attendance to be used for administrative and payroll purposes. According to the 2013 article “Biometric Technology Applications and Trends in Hotels,” published in the Hospitality Review Journal, fingerprint readers are the most frequent biometric technology used by hotel employees.

Some hotels have been exploring the use of biometric access control for guests – to allow secure entrance to rooms and facilities, with a connection to payment systems. According to the 2010 article “Theoretic and Empirical Considerations of Guests’ Perceptions of Biometric Systems in Hotels,” published in the Hospitality, Leisure, Sport & Tourism Journal, hotel guests can easily adopt to use biometric systems, particularly if their usefulness is understood.
